It IS true. Asian bakery breads are high in calories, because of all the carbs and fat. But I can't stop that daily habit of popping into an asian bakery for those delicious pieces of heaven.
BreadTalk. Made you glance twice didn't I? Unless you're one of the friendly folks in Singapore, you wouldn't have heard of BreadTalk. Why does the name, colour and store look and sound so similar then? You're thinking of BreadTop.
These two stores are VERY similar. The logo and name could be easily mistaken and the inside of the store isn't much different either. Both have a large variety of delicious breads.
No one would believe me, but a friend of a relative of a friend of mine is the creator of BreadTop. I'm not saying that i know this is true but he copied the idea off BreadTalk while staying in Singapore.
I'm sorry, i don't mean to sound like a dobber. I've actually been to both these stores and i think both the standards of breads are VERY high. It is pretty much impossible to go in one of these stores and leave with only one piece of bread on your tray.
Favourite from BreadTalk
When i travelled to Singapore, a friend of mine told me about the pork floss buns from BreadTalk. I wasn't a huge fan of pork floss buns then, i always thought they were dry and bland. She made me try one from BreadTalk and BOY, WAS I WRONG.
The floss is not too strong in flavour, and a little savoury at the same time. You probably can't see in this picture, but there's this thick, delicious layer of some sort of delicious cream between the floss and the perfectly baked bread.
BreadTalk is famous for their floss buns. They even have a variety of pork floss, chicken floss and spicy floss buns.
I have named this my favourite item from BreadTalk but I have to reveal that this is the ONLY item i tasted and i am very sad i had to leave Singapore before i could have a taste of any other breads. I highly recommend the pork floss bun. The amount of cream and pork floss is VERY generous, and you don't have to be a fan of this to love it.
Favourite from BreadTop
Now i have been to BreadTop alot more then BreadTalk because it is very close to where i live so there'll be a few favourites from here.
This is a Triple Spring Onion bread from BreadTop. It is my current favourite, it might look just like a plain bun with shallots on top but the flavour is AWESOME. The bottom of the bread has this crunchy oily layer which is really nice to eat. The inside of the bread i extremelt soft and have this yummy buttery taste. The bread is coated at the top with this creamy ingredient (im not sure what, it has no colour). Just eating the bread without the shallots on top is marvellous but those slightly toasted shallots just gives it that extra taste.
I highly reccommend this to people who like to eat slighly plainer flavours, this isn't too sweet or too savoury but the different textures are just perfect. If you're not too sure of whether to try this, you should smell the aroma off this bread. It just smells SOOO GOOD.
A BreadTop sausage bun. This is a wonderful variation of a normal sausage bun. Other sausage buns always have soggy bread around the sausage, which i don't really like. BreadTop bakes the buns so perfectly. The sausages arent filled with any bits of chewy fat and this bread is topped with little flakes of green seaweed, some cream and a zag- zag of tomato sauce.
BreadTop put this bread together perfectly with the flavour combination. YUM!
I guess most people who like this bread are the yonger children. I don't mean toddlers and babies. I mean the children who are sort of 6 to 14- ish. But i say that just because i notice more people at that age group who eat this bread. Of course, the flavour of this isn't very overpowering either so i choose this as my other favourite.
